What is an environment

A TD/OMS environment is a stage in the application development cycle and is defined within the TD/OMS environment maintenance function.

A simple application definition consists of two or three environments as shown in the following figure:

 Cycle001.gif

This cycle consists of three environments and also shows the path which objects can follow when they are transferred. The environment with the highest sequence number is generally known as the production environment. Object movements normally originate from this environment if an existing object must be changed. The route from the production environment always goes to the development environment. New objects normally originate from the development environment.

Once development is complete, the object is transferred to the test environment where the functionality of the object is tested. If the test fails, the object is transferred back to the development environment for re-processing. If the test succeeds then the object is moved (back) into the production environment. This is the end of one development cycle.
