Remain Software Donates Code To Eclipse

Tuesday, April 27, 2010
Remain Software has again donated software to the Eclipse foundation. This time Remain Software is working together with the Eclipse Communication Framework project (ECF) [1] which resulted in the creation of a Discovery provider based on the ECF Discovery Framework [2] and Apache Zookeeper [3].

WAN Discovery

Wim Jongman, CTO of Remain: "We needed a WAN discovery protocol for our next generation Lifecycle Management product, codenamed Gravity". "We make use of the ECF codebase in some parts of our application and we are very happy with the quality of the code and the support of the ECF committers. Therefore we are pleased that the ECF team has decided to include our code into the ECF codebase."

Scott Lewis, ECF project lead: "The ECF community is very happy with this contribution from Remain Software.  The Apache Zookeeper Discovery Provider is an important addition to the already rich set of protocols supported by ECF, and we are looking forward to continuing the cooperation with Wim and his team."

The Zookeeper discovery contribution works seemlessly with the ECF implementation of the OSGi 4.2 remote services standard.

A basic explanation of the workings of the new ECF Discovery Provider can be found on Wims blog [4]. Further details can be found on the Eclipse ECF wiki [5].
